Sherita Flake teaches graduate courses in mathematics for Urban Teachers in collaboration with the Johns Hopkins University School of Education. She also coaches graduate students in the Urban Teachers program. Sherita has served as a teacher and instructional leader with school districts in Tennessee, Virginia, and the District of Columbia at the Elementary, Middle, and High School levels. In Tennessee, Sherita’s leadership with the Memphis City/Shelby County Schools Systems led to the implementation of District Weekly Common Assessments and Guided Math Centers at the secondary level. As a result, historically underperforming schools moved to good standing.
While working in the District of Columbia Public Schools in Washington, D.C., Sherita received recognition as a multi-year Standing Ovation recipient and under her tutelage was the development of a successful RTI program and math teacher leaders who served as content experts for the district. Her work with Manassas City Public Schools in Virginia led to her receiving the Governor’s Award for Excellence. In addition to the traditional school setting, Sherita has worked with the Tennessee Department of Education as a Common Core Coach and served on various accreditation committees with AdvancEd.
