Maia Merin is the Director of Clinical Faculty at Urban Teachers. She has taught social studies methods courses, courses in urban education, history of education and the philosophy of education at several institutions of higher education. Prior to joining the faculty at Urban Teachers, she was a program director at the National Academy of Advanced Teacher Education. She was responsible for designing and implementing rigorous professional learning courses for experienced, high performing teachers in underserved schools. She has a passion for developing engaging professional learning opportunities for teachers.
Maia Merin began her teaching career in New York City schools, selected for NYC Teaching Fellow Program, an alternative certification program, during which she earned her master’s degree in teaching from Brooklyn College. She taught high school history and social studies in New York City for many years and coached her girls’ soccer team to the city finals. She earned her Ph.D. in Teaching and Learning from NYU in 2015 and was a Ruth Landes dissertation grant award winner.
