Urban Teachers awarded three-year AmeriCorps partnership

Urban Teachers is excited to announce that our partnership with AmeriCorps will continue in the coming school year. Urban Teachers has been awarded a three-year partnership with the Professional Corps, an AmeriCorps program for full-time employees in difficult-to-staff professions, like teaching and health care. This school year, more than 240 Urban Teachers educators will enroll as members.

This funding is provided by the Corporation for National and Community Service, the federal agency for volunteering and service. This year marks the 25th anniversary of AmeriCorps. Since the program’s inception in 1994, more than 1 million Americans have served their country through the national service program. Organizations are currently recruiting for AmeriCorps members to begin service this fall. Those interested in serving can learn more at AmeriCorps.gov/Join.

Teachers in their second and third years of the Urban Teachers program will be invited to enroll in this program. Importantly, all of our eligible teachers will still have access to the Segal Education Award and other financial benefits associated with AmeriCorps membership. The award, totaling more than $12,000 over two years, can be put toward publicly-issued student loans.

Our teachers serve their communities every day by elevating student learning. We are thrilled to continue our partnership with AmeriCorps and to be a champion for national service. More information about eligibility and enrollment will be shared with our rising first-year teachers during Summer Institute 2019.
