AmeriCorps Partnership Continues in 2020-2021 School Year

Urban Teachers is pleased to announce that our partnership with AmeriCorps will continue in the 2020-2021 school year. This coming school year will be the second year of a three-year partnership with AmeriCorps and the Corporation for National and Community Service. In May 2019, Urban Teachers was awarded the opportunity to offer a Professional Corps program to our participants. Professional Corps is an AmeriCorps program for full-time employees in difficult-to-staff professions, like teaching and health care.

This program and partnership allow Urban Teachers to celebrate the service that our educators provide to their students and communities every day. Teachers in their second and third years of the Urban Teachers program are invited to enroll as AmeriCorps members. Members have access to financial and networking benefits, in addition to the coaching, training, and support that they receive as Urban Teachers participants.

Over 240 Urban Teachers educators will serve as AmeriCorps members this school year. They will join the network of 75,000 AmeriCorps members who will serve through 21,000+schools, nonprofits, and community and faith-based organizations across the country. They will also be eligible to earn the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award, valued at $6,195, that can be used to repay students loans and cover future tuition expenses.

This funding is provided by the Corporation for National and Community Service, the federal agency for volunteering, civic engagement, and national service programs like AmeriCorps. For more than two 25 years, more than 1 million dedicated Americans have joined AmeriCorps and pledged to ‘get things done.’ This year, the 75,000 AmeriCorps members serving in schools, nonprofits, community and faith-based organizations, will do the same as they rebuild communities, support veterans, fight the opioid epidemic, prepare students for success, foster economic opportunity, and more.

Those interested in serving can learn more at AmeriCorps.gov/join. Current Urban Teachers participants may contact their site teams for more information.
