When You Work with Urban Teachers, You Tap Into a Pipeline of Highly-Effective, Committed Educators
Our teachers are dedicated to their schools, communities and their students. Our teachers have the preparation to become leaders in their schools, ensuring students are empowered through high quality education.
We select the very best candidates for our program – only 30 percent of applicants are accepted – and prepare them thoroughly for their careers with rigorous coursework on-the-job training, and support. All of our teachers receive a master’s degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Education and certification in either Elementary Education, Secondary English or Secondary Mathematics, as well as special education. From the first day they become a teacher of record, they are ready to facilitate student learning with extensive content knowledge, pedagogy and a deep understanding of children and the assets they bring to the classroom. We work with our teachers for four years to provide support and opportunities for growth through coaching and site support. In fact, over 90 percent of participants that complete our program go on to teach for at least another year—often more.
